TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Election Commission (KPU) is committed to implementing inclusive general elections to embrace the disabled by providing convenience to cast their votes.
"We are committed to supporting the inclusive election. This is not just empty gestures, but we are strongly committed to implementing it," KPU member Wahyu Setiawan said in Jakarta on Friday, August 18.
He said that in order to hold an inclusive election, the election commission has included several new norms that prioritize accessibility in the Regulation for Election Commission (PKPU) on dissemination and participation. With the norms in PKPU draft, Wahyu continued that all KPU members would implement the regulation to serve the voters, especially voters with disabilities.
Wahyu added that to improve service quality in dissemination and education to voters, KPU is currently setting up a new program to optimize family-based education to voters. By doing so, voters with the disability will be identified along with their needs, he continued.
In addition, KPU will also work with the Election Committee for the Disabled (PPUA Penca) to discuss the needs of the disabled in the election.
