TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo handed out 2.850 land certificates to residents of Jember District and its surrounding areas on Sunday (13/8).
"This certificate is important because in all areas across Indonesia that I have visited, there is always a dispute over land ownership, be it between residents and institution, government, company, and others. That is why this year we launch a program across Indonesia in which 5,000,000 certificates must be handed out this year," Jokowi said Kaliwates Regency in Jember.
President added that when residents have certificates in their possession, others do not have the right to claim their land. President symbolically handed out the certificates to 12 recipients.
Furthermore, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil explained that the distributed 2,850 land certificates were from eight regencies or districts in East Java including Jember Regency with 1,100 recipients, Banyuwangi with 300 recipients, Probolinggo with 400 recipients, Lumajang with 250 recipients, Bondowoso with 250 recipients, Pasuruan with 200 recipients, Probolinggo with 250 recipients, and Situbondo District with 150 recipients.
