Central Sumba Tourism and Culture Office head Daniel Guti Sabarua said that the Kataga dance was performed by kids because the organizer wants to introduce it to younger generations. The Kataga dance is usually performed by men with a traditional costume and weapons, such as swords and shields.

The Kataga is one of the most popular dances in NTT, particularly West Sumba. The dance often features in traditional events, welcoming party and cultural shows.

The art is a combination of dance and the art of war of Sumba people. “Moreover, the Kataga dance is inspired by the Sumba people’s history…” Sabuara said.

After the Kataga dance, Reja dance was performed to represent brotherhood among locals.

Also in attendance were Central Sumba Regent Umbu S Pateduk and NTT Second Regional Secretary Alexander Sena, who represented Governor Frans Lebu in opening the 100 Sandalwood Horses Parade.
