TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police arrested a man suspected to be responsible for the attack against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator, Novel Baswedan. The arrest was made possible after police received clues directly from Novel following their meeting in Singapore.
“The individual (AL) denied any involvement,” said Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian on Wednesday, May 10.
According to Tito, AL denied the allegations related to his involvement in the acid attack against Novel on the early morning of April 11. AL was taken to the locations in order to authenticate his alibi on the day the attack took place.
“We also inspected [the history of] his mobile phone during the time of the incident,” the police chief revealed.
Regarding the photograph of the alleged suspect that circulated on the internet, Tito denies its credibility. “The (individual) in the photograph has a strong alibi and wasn’t in Jakarta at the time of the incident, it was checked through his tickets, CCTV recording, and mobile phone CDR,” he explained.
Tito stated again that AL has captured thanks to the information provided by the victim. AL has not been named as a suspect by the police.
