Indonesia Still Lacks Skilled Workforce Needed by Industries

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manpower Minister M Hanif Dhakiri said Indonesia still lacks skilled and qualified workforce because there is still mismatch or gap between education backgrounds and demands from the business world.
"The need for skilled workers in Indonesia continues to rise as the country’s economy grows,” Hanif said in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, one of the causes of the lack of skilled workforce is because the rate of educational backgrounds that is needed by the business world is only 37&, showing that the ‘link and match’ between the education world and the business world is far to reach.
"The improvement of the quality of human resources is a must to win the global competition. It is time not to rely on abundant human resources. We have to start thinking that the one that will determine the future is the quality of human resources,” Hanif said.
