TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit across West Java at 1:53 am on Thursday, February 16. The epicenter of the earthquake was 96 kilometers southwest of Bandung, at a depth of 61 kilometers.
“The earthquake has no potential to cause a tsunami,” the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency spokesman Daryono said in a written statement on Thursday.
The quake was felt at Intensity II BMKG or III MMI. “The quake was felt in Bandung, Pangalengan, Pelabuhan Ratu, Ciamis, Pangandaran and Tasikmalaya,” Daryono said.
The BMKG also reported that a 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit the city of Garut in West Java at 1:53 am. The epicenter of the quake was 66 kilometers southwest of Garut, at a depth of 19 kilometers.
