TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Indonesian Lower Class Movement (GMBI) headquarters at Ciampea, Bogor District, was burned down by a group of people. The incident occurred on Friday, January 13, 2017, at around 02.00 AM. As many as 20 alleged suspects were apprehended by the police.
Head of public relations at the West Java Police district, Comr. Yusri Yunus, said that the incident was a follow-up from an earlier clash between two mass organization groups; one was a joint group which the GMBI affiliated with and the other was the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).
The clash took place in front of West Java’s Police Headquarters on Thursday, January 13, 2017.
“The clash sparked after a rumor said that an FPI member, Syarief, was stabbed and a vehicle was destroyed, which triggered the anger of FPI members in Ciampea Bogor,” Yusri said.
Prior to the incident, around 150 people from the Jamaah Majelis Arasyafat were looking for information regarding the location of GMBI headquarters. Police immediately sent their personnel to the location but it was eventually outnumbered.
There were no fatalities from the incident. “We’ve detained 20 people for questioning,” Yusri said.
A similar incident took place at Ciamis, where a group of people threw rocks at GMBI’s secretariat on Friday, January 13, 2017, at 01.30 AM.
“Yes, there was a destruction attempt. We’ve yet to apprehend the suspects,” he said.
