TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Oil and gas company, Oman Overseas Oil and Gas Operation, is planning to build refineries in Bontang, North Kalimantan and Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra. The company plans to collaborate with Indonesia's state oiler Pertamina.
"They have expressed their desire to invest in Indonesia. We are deciding on where they should build first," SOE Minister Rini Soemarno said in Jakarta Friday, August 12, Antara reported.
According to Rini, Pertamina as the partner is conducting relevant studies to later finalize the Oman-based oil firm's plan. "We are reviewing which refinery would be faster to build, Bontang or North Sumatra," Rini said.
She said the refineries, once built, will increase the national production volume.
Meanwhile, Pertamina president director Dwi Sutjipto said that Oman Overseas Oil and Gas Operation is serious to develop their business in Indonesia. He said that the investment details are currently being discussed by the two companies.
"If the refineries have a capacity of 300,000 barrels a day, the projected investment is between US$10 billion and US$12 billion," he said.
