TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Finance Ministry plans to auction 163 tons of illegal beef confiscated from smuggling attempts. Heru pambudi, Director General of Customs and Excise said that the auction will be held on Jult 2, 2016.
Heru explained that the beef was smuggled in containers claimed to contain livestock feed. "But in fact it was filled with beef," Heru said on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Most of the smuggled beef were innards, such as the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and legs. Heru said that all of the smuggled beef were originated from Australia and News Zealand.
In response to the plan, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said that however, wins the auction must "resell the meat with affordable price."
