TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has carried out steps to follow up President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's instruction to accelerate the 35,000 Megawatts electricity project. One of the steps taken by the Ministry includes focusing the State-Electricity Company (PLN) to purchase electricity instead of construction power plants.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said said that PLN should not construct too many power plants. Instead, Minister Sudirman said that PLN should focus on constructing electricity distribution and transmission infrastructures to provide access for remote areas.
"We have delivered the [instruction] letter to PLN," Sudirman stated.
Initially, PLN was tasked to construct power plants to generate 10,223 Megawatts of electricity. On the contrary, Minister Sudirman asserted that PLN should only build power plants to generate 5,000 Megawatts.
