TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Indonesian Air Force Military Police stationed at the Husein Sastra Negara Airport has successfully intercepted a firearm smuggling attempt on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. The firearm, an antique revolver made in 1873 in Italy, was set to be delivered to Poso, Central Sulawesi.
First Liutenant Ahsanul Arafin, Chief of Security of the Military Police said that authorities began to raise suspicion when several loads of cargo were inspected under the airport's x-ray machine. "[Authorities] patrolling on the airports vital objects received information from the airport's x-ray operator who claimed to have found an item that resembles a firearm. One of the authorities then come to the location [of the goods] and confirm the suspicion," Ahsanul said on Friday, January 29, 2016.
Ahsanul said that the gun will be delivered to PT Pindad, a state-owned weapon manufacturer to be examined.
Col. Inf. Agoes Hari, Commander of the Bandung 0618 Military District said that based on a preliminary investigation, it is found that the gun was delivered by P, a man living in Ujung Berung, Bandung, who collected antique goods.
"The sender's initial is P, P trades antique goods," said Agoes. Agoes added that the revolver was purchased by someone in Poso.
Agoes said that he will coordinate with the Police to investigate the case. Agoes concerned that the gun was related to the recent terrorist attack in Jakarta.
