TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter Scale shook Vanuatu on Friday morning, according to information released by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), but no immediate damage and casualties have been reported since the earthquake happened.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which took place at 00.18, Vanuatu time, was located at a depth of 10 kilometers below the sea level, around 78 kilometers off the southeastern coast of Lakatoro, Vanuatu.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center—based in Hawaii—has yet to issue a tsunami warning in relation to the earthquake as per Friday morning, reported Xinhua.
Vanuatu is located in a geological zone known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, where several tectonic plates intersect and result in a high concentration of volcanoes that often causes seismic activities.
