TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consumer Foundation (YLKI) expressed its pessimism that the policy to remove ticket counters at Soekarno-Hatta Airport would eliminate ticket scalping practices. YLKI executive chairman Sudaryatmo said that the airport operators should instead discipline airlines in terms of ticket booking policy.
“It’s not a question about whether direct ticket counters should exist or not. Instead, it’s about discipline,” Sudayartmo told Tempo on Sunday.
The policy to remove ticket counters will be set in motion starting from February 15, 2015. According to Sudaryatmo, airlines and travel agents are prone to ticket scalping practices. Scalpers usually bargain with airline staff or travel agents to procure tickets.
Sudaryatmo called on Angkasa Pura to coordinate with airlines to maintain online ticket counters at the airport. Sudaryatmo said that the coordination would protect consumers who prefer to buy tickets at airports.
