TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Russia's Vladimir Putin met on Monday, September 29, 2014, to discuss the ways to deepen the existing economic relationship between Tehran and Moscow.
The bilateral reassessment talks came in between meetings during the Caspian Sea Summit in Astrakhan - marking the fourth meeting between the two heads of state in 2014. The five states - Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia and Azerbaijan - met in the Summit to discussed the security arrangement of the land-locked Caspian Sea, which is bordered by all five states.
Rouhani said that the agreements reached at the Astrakhan Summit is a strong indication that five states that share the Caspian Sea coastal line are committed to working together for the sake of their collective interests.
The Iranian President said that the a number of meetings planned in the near future between the heads of states and high-ranking officials from Iran and Russia signifies the commitments of both states to deepen the existing relations between the two.
Russia's President, on his part, praises Rouhani and his administration's desire to enhance their ties with Russia.
"Iran and Russia shares a lot of commonalities on a number of regional and international issues. As such, enhanced cooperation between Iran and Russia is a contributing factor that will help with the maintenance of peace and security in Central Asia and the Middle East," said Putin.
