TEMPO.CO, Tripoli - Egyptian and United Arab Emirates military forces have launched several attacks against several militia bases in Tripoli, Libya, in the past week. The attacks came as a surprise for the United States, who claimed to ahve absolutely no information concerning the attack.
The New York Times reported on Monday, August 25, 2014, that Egypt and the UAE did not notify other countries about their movements in Libya. The operation, nevertheless, was a success as Egyptian and UAE special forces managed to destroy an Islamic Militia Camp in Eastern Libya.
Frederic Wehrey, former US military attache in di Libya, said that during the rebellion against Muammar Qadhafi three years ago, Qatar and the UAE were actively involved in the conflict in Libya.
In response to the attacks, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi denied that his country has carried out a military operation in Libya. Egypt's denial caused the public to question who launched the airstrike in Tripoli.
Anti-Islamic troops, led by former general Khalifa Heftir, was claimed to be responsible for the airstrike, yet many doubted that the group has the military capability to conduct such attack.
