TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called on all Indonesians to reunite after a swirl of political rifts ensuing from the July 9 presidential election. Jokowi said the Eid al-Fitr was the right moment to forgive each other and foster the unity of Indonesia.

“We hope all Indonesians will mend their broken ties after the election and become one again,” said Jokowi at City Hall after holding an open house and Eid prayer on Monday.

Jokowi hoped the people who were previously at loggerheads with their neighbors and friends due to different political views could live in harmony again. “No more number one or number two. All is one, for Indonesia,” he said.

Jokowi carried out the Eid prayer at City Hall today instead of at the Istiqlal Mosque as he was requested to conduct the prayer at City Hall before moving to the state palace. Jokowi said he would visit senior figures during Lebaran this year, such as Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and National Democrat Party (NasDem) chief Surya Paloh. Jokowi might also visit the state palace.
