TEMPO.CO, Cairo - During his visit to Egypt on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed Israel's attacks in Gaza with Arab League secretary-general Nabil Al-Araby.
Abbas presented the latest development of the attack to Al-Araby as well as welcomed Egypt's peace proposal, according to sources in the Arab League in a press conference as quoted by AFP news agency.
He also explained about Palestine's request to the United Nations to provide international protection for its people and territory from Israel's continuous aggression that has been occurring since the war in 1967.
Al-Araby said that the Palestinian people had suffered from attacks by Israel for the last five decades and they needed international protection. About the talks with Abbas, he also said that they had discussed Egypt's ceasefire initiative in Gaza and Palestinian leaders' attempt to restore peace.
"President Abbas sent a message to UN Secretary-General calling for provision of international protection to the Palestinian people against recurrence of Israeli attacks in the future," Al-Araby said, adding that the Arab League and its member states support the Palestinian leader's request.
