TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Railway crossings in Yogyakarta and Central Java remain unsupervised to date as the year’s homecoming rush is just around the corner.
Latest data from state-run railway company PT KAI of Yogyakarta branch show a total of 62 and 286 train crossings in Yogyakarta and Central Java, respectively, were unmonitored.
The branch’s public relations head Bambang S. Prayitno said the railway crossings include those adjacent to the steadily increasing locals’ homes.
“The number of this sort of train crossings are rising in line with the growing number of the homes,” he said on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
Unsupervised train crossings in Yogyakarta are evident in the regencies of Kulonprogo, Bantul, Sleman and Yogyakarta municipality, while those in Central Java are spread across Purworejo , Klaten, Sukoharjo, Surakarta, Karanganyar, Sragen, Grobogan, and Wonogiri.
Bambang estimated there would be a four percent increase in train passengers during the homecoming journey this year. He added the company had prepared five additional trains to anticipate an influx in passengers ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
