TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A campaign post of the presidential candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, was set ablaze by an unidentified person early in the morning today in what the party described as an act of terror against Jokowi’s teams of volunteers.
"This is part of those actions intended to frighten us," PDI-P deputy secretary general Hasto Kristianto told Tempo on Monday. Hasto has related the arson to the July 9 presidential election.
In light of the incident, Hasto said the party had called on Jokowi’s volunteer and the party’s cadres to exercise caution, while adding he would not point his finger toward a particular party regarding the incident. “We don’t want to stir things up, “he said.
Jokowi’s supporter post on Jl. Sultan Agung, Setiabudi, South Jakarta was torched early in the morning today. Residents in the vicinity managed to put of the fire before it spread to neighboring areas.
