TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam has issued an official letter of instruction barring government officials from introducing policies that might induce controversies until the end of their tenures.
Dipo said the letter contained an instruction from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as addressed by the president in a cabinet meeting in January.
"There will be no policy, regulation, or program bearing a great deal of implications prior and during the presidential election, unless it is reported to the president and the vice president," Dipo said.
He mentioned that ministers and non-ministry officials had to involve actively in preserving the present conducive environment to encourage economic, politic, and security development ahead of and during the 2014 presidential election 2014.
As for regulations that had already been issued, Dipo said the related institutions must render comprehensive explanations to the public, particularly if the policy had sparked controversies. "There should be no more perplexing news," he said.
