TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Health has authorized 11 hospitals in Indonesia to practice stem cells therapy. The Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Dokter Sutomo Hospital, and educational hospital are among them.
"There has been a regulation issued by the Minister of Health year 2014. Medical Practitioners who have been conducting the stem cell therapy are expected to establish coordination with the 11 designated hospitals," said the Director of Directorate Referral Health of the Ministry of Health, Chairul Radjab Nasution, during the inauguration of Regenic stem cells laboratory in Bogor on Saturday, March 8.
Chairul further explained that the government will not give sanctions to the medical practitioners who have already conducting stem cell therapy practices, considering their good intention to cure people.
"We could not be careless in reinforcing the stem cell regulation, we have to guide them slowly," said Chairul who does not recommend one to get a stem cell therapy.
Professor Amin Soebandrio from the Indonesian Association for Stem Cell Research is willing to discuss with related parties, including with the Ministry of Health, regarding the conduct of stem cell therapy practice.
