TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Sukarnoputri asked Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo--one of the party's cadres--to protect the environment, including normalizing the 12 rivers in Jakarta.
"After Jokowi was elected as Governor of Jakarta, I asked him to protect the environment, including the river environment," Megawati said while planting on the banks of Ciliwung River in East Jakarta, Sunday, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Megawati asked Jokowi to pay attention to Jakarta's rivers and green belts; one way is by normalizing the rivers.
According to Megawati, the normalization of Ciliwung River is not only the responsibility of Jakarta administration. Jakarta's rivers--including Ciliwung and Pesanggrahan, she said, disembogue in Bogor.
Therefore, Megawati asked Jokowi to coordinate with governments of Jakarta's surrounding cities and provinces to jointly normalize rivers in Jakarta.
