TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maj. General Agus Sutomo, Special Forces Commando (Kopassus) General Commander, said to be upset but also felt proud of his men's vigilant act in Cebongan. Agus mentioned Kopassus never trained the soldiers into breaking the law. "There is a particular subject in the academy that teaches them to abide the law," he said.
However, Maj. General Agus said that he was proud that Ucok and his teammate conducted the shooting to regain Kopassus' dignity. The victims, Diki and friends, had intentionally killed a Kopassus member in a bar-fight.
"To be honest, I never rest assured after the incident. Our pride and honor were trampled over," said Agus, "We would rather take this risk (to be imprisoned) than to be forever disgraced."
Agus later mentioned that the moral value following Cebongan massacre is that Yogyakarta residents are now feeling much safer. "Criminal threat has dropped significantly. Drugs distribution also reduced, given that Diki and his friends were also drug dealers," said Agus.
