TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta – Some believed that the trial of the Cebongan Penitentiary case is not objective because the panel of judges, prosecutors and witnesses are haunted by fear. As a result, witness statements are often concealed or become inconsistent.
"The prosecutor's knowledge and legal analysis on the case is limited and controlled. The decisions made by the panel of judges will be inaccurate and unfair," said Insp. Gen. (ret.) Professor Teguh Soedarsono from the Victim and Witness Protection Agency (LPSK) on Tuesday, August 20.
He also questioned the security of Yogyakarta's Military II-11 Court. Teguh claimed that the supporters of the defendants who attacked the Cebongan prison are free to do as they please. For example, the supporters can intimidate the supervisors of the trial or even shut the gates to the court room and force the prosecutors to release a statement, just like what happened last Monday after the prosecutor Lt. Col. Budiharto read the prosecutors' reply.
"What happened to security and comfort during a trial? If the prosecutors and judges are afraid, how do you think the witnesses feel," said Teguh.
