TEMPO.CO, Malang - A number of armed Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel of the East Java Police have been seen protecting working traffic policemen from the Malang Police. “This is a preventive measure after the shootings of cops in Jakarta,” Malang Police spokesman Adj. Comr. Dwiko Gunawan said on Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
The terror against police, Dwiko said, had made policemen restless, fearing similar incidents would spread to Malang. “So don’t be surprised to see policemen working together with Brimob personnel,” he said.
Dwiko explained the police deployed the Brimob personnel in several strategic areas both to protect officers in the field and to make the people feel safe. “We cannot reveal the number of the personnel. It’s classified,” he said.
The Mobile Brigade, Dwiko explained, was trained in addressing conflicts and terrors. He said they had had multiple experiences of combating terrors in a number of regions in the nation.
