TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Defendants in the Cebongan case are preparing to celebrate Eid behind bars. "The twelve defendants remain arrested," Commander of the Yogyakarta IV/2 Military Police Detachment, Lt. Col. Adrian Jefridin, said yesterday.
The suspects had been arrested prior to the trial which began on June 20. On Aug. 14, the court's agenda is the hearing of the defendant's defense argument.
The Muslim defendants can file a request to leave their cells for Eid al-Fitr prayers. Jefridin said the prison is preparing a place for them to do their prayers.
The defendants are members of Group 2 of the Cage Menjangan Special Forces Command. In the first file are Second Sgt. Ucok Tigor Simbolon--charged with 12 years imprisonment; First Sgt. Sumaryanto Sugeng, indicted with 10 years jail time; and First Corporal Kodik, who is charged with eight years in prison.
In the second file, there are five defendant; First Sgt. Tri Juwanto, First Sgt. Anjar Rahmanto, First Sgt. Martinus Paulus Robertus, First Sgt. Suprapto, and First Sgt. Herman Siswoyo. They are all charged with two years of jail time.
In the third file, there is First Sgt. Ikhmawan Suprapto who is charged with demanded 1.5 years imprisonment. In the fourth file there are Sgt. Major Rokhmadi, Sgt. Major Zaenuri, and Head Sergeant Sutar, who are all charged with eight months in prison.
Colonel Rokhmat, the defense lawyer, is hoping that the defendants will be given more flexibility to receive a family visit. However, he said that he leaves the decision to the hands of prosecutors and the military police.
