TEMPO.CO, Boston - The suspect of the Boston bombing, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, said that his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was the mastermind behind the explosion that killed three people during the city's marathon. Dzhokhar's statement was disclosed by a US government source through CNN on Monday April 22.
He also claimed that his brother had organized the bombings because he wanted to "defend" Islam.
The 19-year-old man, currently being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, also said that he and his brothers are not affiliated with any terrorist network.
The statement came shortly after US federal prosecutors Carmen Otiz charged Dzhokhar with using a weapon of mass destruction to kill three people and injure more than 200, a crime that may bring him the death penalty.
