TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Conflict within the National Democratic Party is spreading. Rumored to withdraw following Expert Council Chairman Hary Tanoesudibjo's was Secretary General Ahmad Rofiq. An internal Tempo source said on Jan. 21 that if Hary left then the young members would follow suit.Hary reportedly did not accept it if the party decided to appoint Surya Paloh as general chairman. The decision is scheduled to be made at the party congress from Jan. 25-27. He believed that the party should be run by the young generation; the founders and senior figures did not need to lead it.Internal tensions started to mount last month when the young people felt that Surya was beginning to dominate the party. Hary's resignation was the ultimate proof the older group distrusted the younger group. This resulted in the secretary general following Hary's move.Rofiq not deny the news.
