TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Entering the second year of President Prabowo Subianto's administration, the realization of the three million homes program remains far from its target. Deputy Housing and Settlements Minister Fahri Hamzah said the slow progress of the flagship program has drawn direct scrutiny from the President.

"He has been very sharp in assessing the performance of institutions handling housing because this is one of the priority programs," Fahri said in an interview with Tempo journalists Ghoida Rahmah, Han Revanda Putra, Praga Utama, Caesar Akbar, and Retno Sulistyowati, along with photographer Tony Hartawan, in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

To accelerate the program's realization, a plan has emerged to establish the Public Housing Development Acceleration Agency. The body was reported to be set up earlier this year and led by Fahri. However, as of late April, the new institution has yet to materialize.

In a conversation lasting more than an hour, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives explained a range of issues, including the challenges in implementing the three million homes program.
