TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A joint search and rescue (SAR) team rescued two foreign nationals trapped on cliffs in Uluwatu, Bali, on Thursday using a helicopter, according to Antara.

The operation involved personnel from Denpasar Police, the Bali National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and a helicopter team from SGI Benoa.

The victims were identified as DZ (21), a Russian woman, and SS (52), an American man.

Denpasar Police spokesperson I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. local time in Pecatu Village, Badung Regency.

"The initial report came from El Kabron Bali Beach Club, which received a call from an unidentified person claiming to be trapped on the cliff," he said.

The beach club then contacted the police after obtaining the phone number from a billboard near the location.

The report was forwarded to South Kuta Police and the Denpasar Police water unit before coordination with the Bali SAR Office.

An eight-person Basarnas team was deployed to the scene, but the steep terrain made ground evacuation impossible.

A helicopter from SGI Benoa was then used to evacuate the victims using a hoisting method.

Both individuals were lifted from the cliff and flown to the SGI Benoa heliport in safe condition. "The evacuation process went smoothly, and both victims were rescued safely," he said.

Adi added that both victims are currently undergoing medical treatment and have not yet been questioned due to trauma. Police have also coordinated with the victims' accommodations to ensure further handling.

Uluwatu is a popular tourist area in Bali known for its steep cliffs, which can pose challenges for visitors.
