Indonesia Records Over 803,000 Cars Sold in 2025

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) recorded 803,687 wholesale car sales units (factory-to-dealer sales) throughout 2025, dropping 7.2 percent compared to 2024 with 865,723 units.

Retail sales (dealer-to-consumer) in 2025 also saw a 6.3 percent decline compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 889,680 units. "Wholesale cars in 2025 amounted to 803,687 units, and retail sales 833,692 units," said chair of Gaikindo, Jongkie Sugiarto, when confirmed on Friday, January 9, 2026.

According to Gaikindo's data, wholesale cars saw a 26.9 percent growth in December 2025 compared to November, with 74,131 units. Retail sales in December 2025 also increased by 18.3 percent compared to the previous month, reaching 79,348 units.

Wholesale cars in December 2025, amounting to 94,100 units, showed a 25.7 percent increase compared to December 2024, which was 74,853 units. Retail sales in December 2025, totaling 93,833 units, increased by 22.7 percent compared to December 2024, which was 76,473 units.

Still, according to the same data, three Japanese brands occupied the highest wholesale and retail sales positions throughout 2025. The top wholesale ranks were held by Toyota (250,431 units), Daihatsu (130,677 units), and Mitsubishi Motors (71,781 units). Meanwhile, retail sales were dominated by Toyota (258,923 units), Daihatsu (137,835 units), and Honda (71,233 units).

Meanwhile, the top Chinese brands this year include Build Your Dreams (BYD), with the highest wholesale sales at 46,711 units. This was followed by Chery with 19,391 units and Wuling with 18,605 units. In retail sales, BYD sold 44,342 units, Wuling 20,607 units, and Chery 19,485 units.

The only Southeast Asian brand, VinFast, recorded wholesale sales of 10,886 units. Retail sales for the Vietnamese manufacturer reached 10,630 units.
