TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the rise in trade and economic cooperation between Russia and China throughout 2025. He shared this in a New Year message to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
"Russia and China actively expand trade and economic cooperation, and major cooperative projects continue to progress steadily," Putin said, according to China Central Television (CCTV) as cited by Antara.
Putin also noted that the mutual visa-free policy between the two nations has made travel and people-to-people exchanges much easier. He stated that the partnership continues to show positive momentum and deliver clear results for both sides.
Furthermore, Putin expressed his readiness to keep up close communication with Xi on bilateral ties and major global issues. The Russian President also "wishes the Chinese people happiness and good health" as they move into the new year.
In his reply, President Xi Jinping said he is ready to maintain communication to reach new milestones in the relationship. Xi signaled a desire to deepen the strategic partnership between the two world powers.
"I am ready to maintain close contact with President Putin and jointly guide China-Russia relations into the new era to achieve new results," said Xi as cited by CCTV on Wednesday.
Xi emphasized that in the coming year, China and Russia will mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II. He noted that this anniversary sends a strong message that peace will eventually prevail over conflict.
"Both countries support each other in the UN and other multilateral forums, and contribute to the reform and improvement of global governance through wisdom and shared strength," said Xi.
