Prabowo: Indonesian-made Cars to Become a National Strategic Project

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that his ministry has proposed the national car program requested by President Prabowo Subianto to become a national strategic project or PSN (National Strategic Project).
"We have already signed the proposal. If it becomes a PSN, I think the realization will be faster," said Agus Gumiwang after the full cabinet meeting of Prabowo's government at the State Palace, Jakarta, on October 20, 2025.
The man known as AGK said that once it has the PSN status, the production scheme, including the factory, will be prepared. "So the PSN status is what we are fighting for. We have proposed it on Thursday."
During the cabinet meeting of his government's first year, Prabowo stated that Indonesia will have domestically-made cars within three years.
"I have allocated funds, we have prepared land for the factories. The team is currently working. We have already produced Indonesian-made jeeps," said Prabowo.
Prabowo mentioned that Indonesian officials and military officers will be proud to use domestically-made jeeps. Especially now, the TNI commander is already using an Indonesian-made jeep when leading the troops.
"Your President is using Indonesian-made jeeps. Yesterday, I was leaving for somewhere, I wanted to go incognito, so I did not want to use it, I used my regular car, an Alphard. It's been a while since I enjoyed the Alphard," he said.
However, Prabowo stated that he must set an example for his subordinates to always use the Maung made by PT Pindad (Persero). "I don't care. You can use those good cars for your days off. When I don't call you, you can use that car."
When inaugurated on October 20 last year, Prabowo used the white Pindad MV-3 Garuda Limousine to parade from the DPR/MPR building to the Presidential Palace. He also mentioned his intention to use the Maung car produced by PT Pindad as his official state vehicle. In addition, Prabowo plans for ministers, vice ministers, governors, and mayors to use the same vehicle.
"I have planned that most likely, all ministers, all vice ministers, director generals, and officials at the level of governors, regents, and mayors should use vehicles made by our own nation," said Prabowo in a written statement on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Prabowo considers the use of Maung as a form of honor and pride for the country's own production. "Well, I just like it, I just like the bright color," said the Chair of the Gerindra Party when asked about the reason for liking the white-colored vehicle.
