TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has confirmed that a fire at the Construction Worker Residence Site 1A, Tower Nusa Indah (Tower 14IKN), caused no casualties or injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated from a room on the 3rd floor at 05:05 PM WITA (Central Indonesia Time) on October 1, 2025.
IKN Authority spokesperson Troy Pantouw said it took nearly three hours for firefighters to extinguish the blaze in the four-story tower, which houses 608 construction workers across 56 rooms. “All workers have been accounted for, are in good condition, and have been relocated to other residences,” he stated in a written release on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Troy emphasized that the fire was confined to Tower 14 and did not spread to surrounding buildings. The police have cordoned off the area for further investigation and emergency management.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and we are awaiting forensic examination results from the police,” Troy added. “Identification units from Polres PPU and Polda Kaltim are already conducting on-site work.”
The fire damaged all rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors, with 14 rooms completely destroyed. “There are signs of damage to ceilings, walls, and furnishings, while surrounding areas were affected by heat and firefighting water,” Troy explained.
The IKN Authority is currently calculating the estimated material losses and, together with Building Management, continues to assess the overall impact of the incident. Despite the fire, Troy assured that development activities in IKN will proceed as planned.
“The handling of this incident involves coordination among the IKN Authority, DPKP PPU, BPBD PPU, Polsek Sepaku, Koramil Sepaku, Ministry of Public Works, and construction partners PT PP, PT Wika Gedung, PT Adhi Karya, PT IHM, and PT MCorp Sukses Makmur,” he said.
Firefighting efforts began promptly with seven fire trucks and eight water supply tanks, and the fire was fully extinguished by 07:00 PM WITA. Troy noted that the affected areas included parts of the 2nd floor, as well as the 3rd and 4th floors.
