"Jurassic World Rebirth" Star Scarlett Johansson is Now Highest-Grossing Actor of All Time

The title comes after the success of her latest film, Jurassic World Rebirth, which shattered records with a US$318 million debut in its opening week. The Black Widow star has now surpassed her two fellow Marvel alumni, Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr., in the list of the most commercially successful film stars of all time.

Johansson appeared as a mercenary in Jurassic World Rebirth, sharing the screen with Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali. In an interview with the Today Show, she admitted to waiting three decades to become a part of the iconic dinosaur franchise.

“I saw the movie ‘Jurassic Park’ when I was 10 years old in the theater and it was so impactful. Like the entire audience, I was completely transfixed, mesmerized, carried away, terrified, all of that stuff, and it’s part of the formative part of my childhood," she said, as quoted by InStyle.

According to data from The Numbers, Johansson has taken the crown as the highest-grossing actor at the box office with total career earnings of US$14.8 billion over three decades. This figure is expected to continue rising with the success of Jurassic World Rebirth as it continues its box office run.

Citing Cosmopolitan, Scarlett Johansson's journey to the top began with a paycheck of US$400,000 for her role in Iron Man 2. However, her value soared in subsequent Marvel projects, earning US$15 million for Black Widow, which then increased by over US$40 million after suing Disney for non-exclusive cinema release.

Johansson again earned US$15 million for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Among other major projects, the film Ghost in the Shell became her highest-paid film of her career, amounting to US$17.5 million.

With paychecks ranging between US$10 million and US$20 million per film, and additional income from various endorsement deals, Forbes noted that Johansson pocketed US$56 million in 2019, making her the highest-paid actress at the time.
