TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airports may not typically be the most family-friendly places. However, some airports provide facilities that make traveling with children an unforgettable experience. This is why Skytrax awards airports around the world that are family-friendly.
The award is based on customer satisfaction surveys from over 100 countries. The survey was conducted from August 2024 to February 2025 and included more than 575 airports. This year, Skytrax crowned Istanbul Airport as the most family-friendly airport.
Family-Friendly Airports
Istanbul Airport offers more than just places to change baby diapers and regular toy shops. It also provides interactive children's play areas with climbing structures and other interesting activities. The airport offers a pleasant travel experience for all passengers, whether traveling with children or elderly family members.
For example, various facilities and services include family-friendly lounges, stroller rentals, special family security lanes, fast-track immigration for families, and spacious terminals with ample seating and extensive shopping areas. Additionally, there are baby care and nursing rooms equipped with bottle warmers, private spaces, and comfortable seating. These rooms ensure that parents traveling with young children have everything they need.
Meanwhile, Singapore's Changi Airport ranked second and continues to provide entertainment for families with its legendary Butterfly Garden, indoor waterfall, and cinemas, turning the airport into an entertainment opportunity. As quoted from Aviationa, children's play areas at the airport are scattered across several terminals, each with different themes to capture children's imaginations.
Seoul Incheon International Airport took third place. It features interactive play areas with digital game walls and traditional Korean cultural experiences designed for children. Family areas provide a quiet place for parents to recharge while children play safely.
Meanwhile, in fourth place, Tokyo Narita International Airport offers a family-friendly approach that reflects Japan's attention to detail and exceptional service. For example, the fun Hello Kitty-themed play area is for children and adults, while the traditional Japanese garden provides a peaceful place for families to relax. Family services include priority lanes throughout the airport, from check-in to boarding.
