Top 8 Private Universities in Indonesia Based on QS WUR 2026: Binus Ranks First

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR) has recently released its latest list of global university rankings. Out of the universities listed, 26 are from Indonesia.

Among these 26 Indonesian institutions, eight are private universities that have secured a place among the best. These include prominent names such as Bina Nusantara University (Binus University), Trisakti University, and the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII).

As reported on the QS Top Universities page, the QS WUR 2026 rankings encompass over 1,500 universities worldwide, representing 100 countries. The rankings are compiled through a comprehensive analysis of 16.4 million academic papers and insights from over 151,000 academics and 100,000 employers.

The core methodology for each ranking considers various factors, including student experience, university partnerships, research activities, and faculty quality. In the QS WUR 2026 rankings, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States holds the top global position.

Furthermore, the QS WUR 2026 rankings are determined using nine performance indicators, including academic reputation at 30 percent, employer reputation at 15 percent, citations-to-faculty ratio at 5 percent, student-to-faculty ratio at 10 percent, the faculty-to-student ratio at 20 percent, the international faculty ratio at 5 percent, the international research network at 5 percent, the international students at 5 percent, and sustainability at 5 percent.
