TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pope Leo XIV delivered several important messages during his inauguration ceremony held on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The messages were delivered in front of world leaders and figures and broadcast widely from St. Peter's Square, Vatican.
In his inaugural sermon, Pope Leo XIV delivered a strong message on the importance of love, unity, and peace in the midst of a world still plagued by conflict and injustice. The former Cardinal of Peru highlighted the various wounds caused by hatred, violence, and fear of differences that divide humanity. "This is the time for love," said Pope Leo XIV.
Pope Leo XIV emphasized that the Church must be a missionary church, opening its arms and heart to all without exception. He urged the faithful to build bridges, not walls, and to uphold dialogue and openness as the path to true unity.
Pope Leo XIV also called for the Church and humanity to unite in love. "In our time, we still see so much division, so many wounds caused by hatred, violence, prejudice, fear of differences, and an economic paradigm that exploits the earth's resources and marginalizes the poorest people," he said.
Pope Leo XIV is the first American Pope. His inauguration was attended by tens of thousands of pilgrims and world figures, including US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and several heads of state and nobles from various countries.
This inauguration is not only a spiritual moment but also a global political event, where world leaders gathered to witness the beginning of Pope Leo XIV's leadership, expected to bring about positive change.
