TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Said Abdullah, Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), has indicated that the party might join Prabowo Subianto’s upcoming administration.
According to Said, PDIP would support Prabowo's government if both the party and the president-elect share similar visions and missions. He noted that the party would make its stance clear at the right time.
"PDIP must consider the nation's fate over the next five years under Mr. Prabowo's leadership," Said stated during a conversation at the parliamentary complex on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Said further explained that if there is alignment in vision and mission, PDIP would support the government’s continuity, even without formally joining the administration.
"PDIP will naturally provide support, even without being part of the cabinet," he added.
Meanwhile, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the party’s stance in Prabowo's administration, as he did not reply to messages or phone calls from Tempo.
Earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani confirmed that a meeting between PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto would take place.
"Yes, there will be a meeting, God willing," Puan said at the House of Representatives complex on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. She declined to provide further details on the timing and agenda of the meeting between the two political party leaders.
Meanwhile, Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani did not rule out the possibility of a coalition between PDIP and Gerindra. "Just wait and see," Muzani said, as quoted by Antara.
