Brands, Type of Phones Likely to Get Android 15 Update

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Android 15 is finally out, but not for everyone. The operating system, dubbed "Vanilla Ice Cream", is currently only available for developers to download from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

AOSP is a repository of Android documentation and source code that allows developers to create custom variants of the Android OS and ensure their devices meet compatibility requirements.

"We are proud to continue our commitment to open source with AOSP. Open source allows anyone to develop and contribute to Android, creating more diverse and innovative devices," Google's VP of Product Management for Android Developers, Matthew McCullough, said in an official blog post.

McCullough added that Jetpack Compose allows developers to leverage Android Studio skills to build apps that can be developed across the Android ecosystem, McCullough added. In addition, the available source code provides a better understanding of how Android works.

Android 15 features a more intuitive user interface (UI), especially for large-screen devices such as tablets and foldable phones. In addition, the OS is supported by artificial intelligence (AI)-based features designed to improve productivity and user experience, such as Circle to search for songs. Android 15 also delivers improvements to media access, camera, and security.

Google has announced that Android 15 will be available to owners of supported Google Pixel devices in the coming weeks. In addition, a number of other brands including Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo and Xiaomi will also receive the Android 15 update in the coming months.
