TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo highlighted four strategies to achieve fairer and more inclusive development for developing countries. He outlined these approaches during the opening of the High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Forum (HLF-MSP) and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on September 2, 2024.
“We require a fresh direction and vision, a novel strategy, and innovative tactical steps to realize equitable and inclusive development for developing countries. To accomplish this, I would like to highlight four key points,” he stated in a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Firstly, he emphasized that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should remain the primary focus of global development, “which should align with national and regional development priorities, such as the Africa Agenda 2063, and be supported by multi-stakeholder partnerships.”
Secondly, he expressed Indonesia's commitment to contributing to global solutions, advocating for the interests of the Global South while also serving as a bridge-builder in promoting equality, justice, and solidarity to accelerate SDG achievement.
“This commitment has been consistent since the Asian-African Conference 69 years ago,” he remarked.
Thirdly, Indonesia is prepared to collaborate with any country, particularly the African region, which is a crucial player in the global development agenda.
Jokowi noted the tangible results of the Indonesia-Africa partnership, including a significant increase in trade volume and the signing of various trade agreements. “Even IAF 2024 alone has recorded business agreements worth US$3.5 billion, nearly six times the value of the first IAF in 2018,” he confirmed.
Finally, he called for renewed global solidarity to enhance South-South and North-South cooperation. He emphasized the importance of complementarity and collaboration in addressing global challenges.
“And with the same spirit next year, Indonesia will host the Platinum Jubilee of the Asia-Africa Conference next year, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Summit,” he remarked.
Jokowi expressed his hope that the HLF-MSP and IAF 2024 in Bali would strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Indonesia and African countries. He underlined the significance of inclusive and sustainable multi-party partnerships in fostering knowledge exchange and investment opportunities.
