The condition in Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Terminal 3 seems returned to normal after one of food outlets at the F&B tenant was caught on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel, on Sunday, September 1, 2024. (Doc. AP II)

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) apologized for the fire incident at a food outlet in Terminal 3 departure of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, early this morning. “AP II apologizes to aircraft passengers for the inconvenience caused,” said Soekarno-Hatta Airport Senior Manager Branch Communication & Legal M. Holik Muardi, on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Holik ensured that the impact of this fire did not interfere with flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. “Currently Soekarno-Hatta Airport flight operations are still running normally,” he said.

The fire occurred in the early hours of September 1, 2024, at around 04:24 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). The fire originated from the roof of the Tous les Jours cafe, one of the food & beverage tenants in the departure area of Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

According to Holik, the fire broke out when a fire appeared from the roof of the food tenant. Furthermore, said Holik, the fire was immediately extinguished by the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) percentile at around 04:30 WIB.

“The hotspots that appeared were extinguished quickly according to procedures and assisted by facilities including APAR and hydrants so that they did not spread to other locations,” he said.

At present, Holik added, ARFF personnel are taking normalization steps at the location where the fire appeared, including removing the smoke inside the terminal using vacuum smoke and exhaust fans.

Executive General Manager of the Main Branch of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Dwi Ananda Wicaksana, said that they had taken preventive steps in minimizing the impact of the food outlet fire in terminal 3 international departure on Sunday morning.

Dwi explained that the management had provided masks to passengers so that they can carry out normal activities amid the smoke billowing in the Terminal area during the extinguishing and cooling process.

Dwi added that since receiving reports of a fire at 4:12 a.m., officers immediately moved to extinguish the fire, carry out fire fighting procedures, isolate and secure electricity and normalize smoke conditions in the room.
