TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fire occurred at Pertamina Central Hospital on Monday, August 26, 2024, at around 01:15 p.m. Jakarta time. Acting Executive Director of PT Pertamina Bina Medika IHC Lia Gardenia Partakusuma said officers were able to minimize risks and safely evacuate patients.
The hospital management activated an emergency procedure to evacuate patients to safer places on the first floor of Building B and the Emergency Room (ER). The fire occurred on vacant floor 4F which was currently in renovation.
The evacuation process of 134 patients was conducted swiftly without any casualties.
According to Lia, medical personnel and nurses were on standby throughout the evacuation process. “The patients’ safety is our main priority. All patients have been relocated to a safe place and received appropriate medical attention,” Lia said in a written statement on Monday.
The Head of Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Satriadi Gunawan said the fire was reported at 01:30 p.m. Jakarta Time. “A short circuit allegedly caused (the fire),” he said.
The agency then deployed 20 units of firetrucks and 85 personnel. The officers managed to put out the fire at around 03:20 p.m. Authorities are currently still investigating the cause of the fire. The Pertamina Hospital along with the HSSE team of PT Pertamina remain on site to ensure the safety procedures and to return patients to their inpatient rooms.
"We are committed to continue to improve safety standards in all hospital units under the auspices of IHC. This incident was very unexpected for us and we will take preventive steps to ensure no similar incidents in the future," said Lia.
The hospital management thanked all parties involved in handling the fire incident including the medical team, nurses, security officers, and firefighters. "Hopefully we will not have to face similar incidents," Lia said.
