TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo showcased the government's accomplishments during his speech at the MPR Annual Session on August 16, 2024. He highlighted advancements in the legal, economic, and infrastructure sectors.
“We should be grateful that after 79 years of independence, we finally have a new Criminal Code as an effort to modernize Indonesian law, as well as the Job Creation Law,” he said at the Senayan Parliament Building. “The Job Creation Law revises 88 laws and 1,200 articles as an effort to deregulate overlapping regulations,” he explained.
Jokowi also highlighted the Sexual Violence Crime Law passed in the DPR in 2022. “This provides stronger legal protection, especially for women and children.”
In the economic sector, he showcased infrastructure developments, including 366,000 kilometers of village roads, 1.9 million meters of village bridges, 2,700 kilometers of new toll roads, 6,000 kilometers of national roads, 50 new ports and airports, 43 dams, and 1.1 million hectares of new irrigation networks.
These infrastructure improvements have contributed to a reduction in logistics costs from 24% to 14% in 2024, leading to a hike in Indonesia's competitiveness from rank 44 to 27.
“We managed to strengthen unity because of more equal and equitable access,” Jokowi concluded.
