5 Southeast Asian Beaches Listed Among World's Best Beaches in 2024, Two in Vietnam

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Five beaches in Southeast Asia made it to the list of the world’s 50 best beaches according to travel experts at the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, released in early August 2024. The beaches are comprised of two Vietnamese beaches and one each in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Travel experts compiled the list based on criteria such as wildlife, panoramic views, atmospheric areas, luxury hotels, quiet corners, family-friendly stretches of sand, and more.

1. Nihiwatu Beach (Indonesia)

Located on Sumba Island, this Indonesian beach was voted among “the best for wildlife.” Nihiwatu Beach is a short 50-minute flight away from Bali, the country’s main destination. This 2.5-kilometer-long beach is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and towering cliffs. Nihiwatu Beach is also an ideal destination for surfers.

2. Maya Bay (Thailand)

In Thailand, Maya Bay is hailed for its stunning views. Maya Bay is part of the uninhabited Phi Phi Leh, one of the two main Phi Phi islands, in Krabi Province. Surrounded by towering cliffs covered in verdant foliage, this bay rose to fame after being featured in the 2000 film "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The beach offers clear blue waters, dramatic cliffs, and beautiful white sand.

3. My Khe Beach (Vietnam)

My Khe Beach in Da Nang, Vietnam, is a 900-meter-long beach, stretching from the base of the Son Tra Peninsula to the Marble Mountains. This beach is famous for its fine white sand and warm water all year round.

4. Non Nuoc Beach (Vietnam)

Also in Vietnam, Non Nuoc Beach is 8 kilometers away from the city center of Da Nang. This beach is five kilometers long and dotted with a series of luxury resorts.

5. Marimegmeg Beach (Philippines)

The last beach in Southeast Asia to be included in this list is the Philippines’ Marimegmeg beach in Palawan. Locally known as Las Cabanas Beach, this beach is just a 15-minute ride from El Nido town. Marimegmeg Beach is notable for its stunning sunsets, crystal clear turquoise waters, and soft golden sand.
