Jokowi to Attend Environmental 'LIKE Festival' in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will attend an environmental festival dubbed the LIKE (Lingkungan or environment, Iklim or climate, Kehutanan or forestry, and Energi Terbarukan or renewable energy) Festival at Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta, on Friday, August 9, 2024. Yusuf Permana, the Presidential Secretariat Deputy for Protocol and Media confirmed in a written statement.

The first LIKE Festival last year was held as part of the preparations for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change or the 28th Conference of the Parties or COP28 in Dubai. This year, COP29 will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in November.

The organizer of this festival, the Ministry of Forestry and Environment, will focus on environmental, climate, forestry, and renewable energy issues. "This is in line with President Jokowi’s commitment to achieving sustainable development goals," said Yusuf in a statement on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Yusuf explained that regarding environmental protection, President Jokowi strives to support an inclusive economy and boost social welfare.

The LIKE Festival tomorrow will commence at 09:00 a.m. Jakarta time. Meanwhile, the festival will be held from August 8 to 11, 2024.

Director General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control Sigit Reliantoro said the government intended to showcase its environmentally friendly technology and its potential in the future during the LIKE Festival.

"The President said Indonesia will ‘lead by example’ to overcome climate change. Well, we are now collecting these examples as evidence of how we are indeed taking action rather than mere rhetoric," said Sigit in a press conference at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, quoted by Antara.
