TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno targeted health tourism in the Bali-based Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to start operating in 2025.
Sandiaga already met with 25 potential investors in Bali on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, and confirmed that the government will open an aesthetic clinic and a large hospital in Sanur next March.
"Today (Wednesday) we met with 25 significant investors to follow up on the Sanur SEZ health tourism, and they are very interested in investing here. We are targeting to start operating several clinics and hospitals focusing on health tourism next year,” said Sandiaga, as quoted in a ministry official statement on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
Sandiaga explained that the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) brought several investors to inspect the health-based tourism in the Bali-based SEZ.
He claimed that investors from Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan expressed interest in developing several plots in Sanur SEZ.
"We’re hoping they’ll come here, not only to inspect the 44 hectares stretch of SEZ but also to explore the potential of the ecosystem outside of Sanur in supporting health tourism in Bali," he said.
Bali’s championed health services include aesthetic clinics, dental health services, fertility, IVF, and geriatrics.
Meanwhile, the target market for health tourism in Bali ranges from Indonesians who often spend tons of money on overseas health services to foreigners from Australia, India, and Malaysia.
"Hopefully the Rp161 trillion spent by over 2 million Indonesians to get treatment abroad could be redirected for the health tourism in Bali,” he said.
