TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ranks of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) soldiers had just completed the Joint Cassowary Exercise (Latma Cassoex) 2024 in the waters of the Indonesia-Australia borders in the Indian Ocean.
Head of the Information Service (Kadispen) of Fleet Command (Koarmada) III, Navy Colonel (KH) R. Doni Kundrat when contacted in Jakarta, Monday, explained that the training attended by KRI Dorang-874 from Koarmada III TNI AL and HMAS Broome 90 from RAN was closed with a souvenir exchange session on the deck of an Australian warship, Sunday, July 28, 2024.
In the closing ceremony, said Doni, the warships from the two countries completed the final session of the sea phase training, namely the transfer of goods between ships in the middle of the sea (RAS).
"Before the closing, several training sessions were carried out, including living harbor, tactical maneuvers, boarding exercises, RAS approaches, firefighting roles (PEK), and ship search procedures in the middle of the sea (VBSS)," said the Head of Information Office of Koarmada III.
He said the VBSS exercise aims to improve the ability of Indonesian Navy and Australian Navy soldiers to ambush, search, search, and free prisoners held hostage by pirate groups.
In Latma Cassoex 2024, Commander of KRI Dorang-874 Major Laut (P) Hermes R. Simanjuntak, who also serves as Commander of the Task Force (Dansatgas) Latma Cassoex 2024 explained that in general the joint exercise aims to improve interoperability between the Indonesian Navy and the Australian Navy.
He added that the exercise can also improve the abilities, insights, and experience of Indonesian Navy soldiers.
At the end of the exercise, the Indonesian Navy and the Australian Navy agreed to continue the joint exercise in the future.
Latma Cassoex, which will take place on July 25 to 28, 2024, is a routine exercise held annually by the Indonesian Navy and the Australian Navy in the border waters of the two countries.
The Indonesian Navy at Cassoex 2023 deployed two warships from the Fleet Command III, namely KRI Dorang-874 and KRI Bawal-875 to the waters of the Indonesia-Australia border. In the exercise, the focus of the Indonesian Navy and the Australian Navy was to strengthen their ability to maintain maritime security in border waters.
Indonesia and Australia share a maritime border along the waters of Australia-Indonesia-Papua New Guinea in the southern part of Papua, then in the Timor Gap area, and in the Indian Ocean.
