President Jokowi Invites Regional Leaders to IKN Garuda Palace

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo hosted four regional heads from East Kalimantan at the Garuda Palace in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) on Monday, July 29, 2024. On his first day of working in the IKN’s central government area in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, he invited East Kalimantan Acting Governor Akmal Malik, Samarinda Mayor Andi Harun, Balikpapan Mayor Rahmad Mas'ud, and North Penajam Paser Acting Regent Makmur Marbun.
“The President invited us to seek support from all parties for the inaugural state event in August 2024,” explained Akmal Malik, East Kalimantan's Acting Governor.
While the Ministry of State Secretariat is leading the committee for the IKN state event, regional governments have been tasked with mobilizing the participation of East Kalimantan community figures.
Akmal expressed appreciation for Jokowi's commitment to the development of Nusantara, noting that the President had begun working in the IKN despite incomplete infrastructure. “The palace facilities, including electricity and water, are already in place for the initial development phase,” he said.
Balikpapan Mayor Rahmad Mas’ud also mentioned the President's call for public support, emphasizing the historical significance of the first Independence Day celebration in IKN and its role in realizing the 2045 vision of Golden Indonesia.
Security Meeting and IKN Development Updates
On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, President Jokowi will meet with regional security officials to discuss the security situation surrounding the IKN.
Jusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, confirmed the meeting, which will include the Commander of the VI Mulawarman Military Region Major General Tri Budi Utomo, Chief of the East Kalimantan Regional Police Inspector General Nanang Avianto, Commander of the 091 Aji Surya Natakesuma Military RegionBrigadier General Anggara Sitompul, Commander of the 0913 Penajam Paser Utara Military District Lieutenant Colonel Arfan Affandi, and Head of the Penajam Paser Utara Police Senior Commissioner Supriyanto.
Jusuf said the meeting aims to enhance security and public services in the IKN region. “The President envisions a crime-free Indonesian Capital City,” he remarked.
