TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has expressed his aspiration for Indonesia to imitate China's economic dominance in the world. He believed the country possessed the potential to achieve a developed country status.
According to him, massive production is the cornerstone of a dominant economy. He outlined three key factors essential for this: a large workforce, abundant natural resources, and a vast territory.
“Few countries possess this combination. China, India, the US, Indonesia, Russia, Mexico, Brazil, and South Africa are notable exceptions,” he stated in a written statement on July 26, 2024.
Tito made the remarks during the One Inspiration award night on July 25, 2024, where he elaborated on China's economic ascent. He emphasized the need for Indonesia to effectively harness its resources to replicate this success.
In a world increasingly devoid of global governance, Tito sees an opportunity for nations to compete for this economic supremacy. He believed that by following China's example, Indonesia could accelerate its journey towards becoming a developed country in the near future.
Tito also said that Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Deputy Governor of East Java Emil Dardak, and a number of other state officials were present at the award ceremony.
